Blogoversary Band Contest- Pamplonavision 2008

Today's my first blogoversary, blogaversary...whatever. And to celebrate, instead of sending you to my first post (snooze) or explaining the origin of this blog (which is probably pretty much like everyone else's), I decided to do the Band Meme. Frogster did this not too long ago and tagged HumorBlogs, and since I'm a member of Humor Blogs, I guess I can consider myself tagged. I also ran across this meme at Halushki's a few days after finding it at Frogster's, so I'm taking that as a divine blogging sign that I should do it. It works like this:
1. Click on this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. Click on this link: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. Finally, click on this link: http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Then you take all that, slap it together on Photoshop or similar, and post it.

Well, since I would do anything to put off ironing, I couldn't leave well enough alone and I came up with several album covers that I liked (and a whole slew of ones I didn't). But, I didn't feel like writing the band review just yet, so I decided just to post the pictures and let you all decide which one you like best. The winning album gets a review at some point in the near future, when I have time and feel like doing it (which means I'm not committing to any particular date, since near future is in the eye of the beholder). I'll even admit that I cheated a little...the first few times I tried it the combinations were pretty lame, so I kept doing it until I came up with something acceptable. But since it's my blogoversary, and this is my blog, I figured I could get away with it...besides, who's going to stop me?

So, without further ado, I present the contestants of this year's Pamplonavision contest (kind of like Eurovision, except it's all run by little old me, right here in Pamplona...that, and all the bands are fake...but then again, sometimes I wonder about the Eurovision ones too):

So, vote, and consider your self tagged...or not, and if you're feeling loquacious, leave me a comment about just what kind of bands these might be. And now it looks like I have no excuses left to keep me from my neglected pile of laundry.

  1. dang, this was a tough choice! i actually did this and it's been sitting in drafts for a while. i figure to post it on wednesday. since i am not at all technologically adept with anything like photoshop i used the 'lolcatz' generator. pathetic huh?

  3. That's a pretty clever idea to stimulate creative thinking. When I just clicked those links, my band name was, get this: Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus (link), and my album title would be, "Can't stop eating peanuts." Awesome.

All those album covers you did are good.

And those covers are way cool! I cast my vote.

  5. Lime: I can't wait to see yours - and it doesn't matter how you put it together, it's the end result that counts. I've never even heard of the lolcatz generator...looks like I'll have to check that out. :)

Zhu: Thanks, read away -and vote!

Erik: When I saw this meme I thought it was one of the most original ones so far, and the truth is once I started I couldn't stop (kind of like eating M&Ms). Some of the combinations are hilarious, others are lame, and a few are cool. I think you should do that album - it would be awsome.

Jozet: Thanks. We'll see what happens with the votes...I'm curious to see what people think.

  8. Happy Blogiversary! Yes, I'll agree, it's never pretty to look back at your first post...

Those were tough choices; all very worthy entrants. The one I picked is clearly a mix of something. Hmm...Jazz and blues (Jews)
    Hmm...Country and rap (Crap)
    Hmm...Country and rock (Crock)
    Hmm...Classic and rap (Clap)

    I'm still note sure...

  10. I like Cafe Pamplona. It offers a refreshing alternative to those traveling cafes that are always clogging the highways.

    Happy B-Vers.

  11. Happy blogiversary! Thanks for coming by! (I don't think I'd be bored either in Espana, I have to say... ;) )

    I like Cafe Pamplona!

  12. I bet Own Goal would have been huge in the 90's, but they're way too slacker for the aughts. Sonnet 76 is probably metal, and they have a great album title, but I'm not sure the cover sets the right mood. I had to go with the James Bond Dossier because they're probably really like the Clash.

  13. I love some of these covers...but James Bond always wins out, right?

  14. dioooooos...don't get me started on the citizenship mess. I will be moving to Barcelona in September, my Catalán "xicot" is as clueless about the process as I am, and his friend that married a Cuban, thus knowing something about the subject, weeeell...not all my guy's friends are MY friends. My close friend from Pamplona, moved to Cuba, and a veritable attempt at ingratiation by the family of the wife of "El Sabelotodo" to tarnish HIS opinion of me (which didn't work, sux to be them)...well, I'm between the proverbial rock and hard place.

  18. Rickey: Oh I hope there'll be many, many more. :)

Minijonb: Time really does fly...or maybe more like wooshes by.

ve: Oh yeah, the first post is usually pretty scary. I'm still laughing at those mixes. Let's see, how do you write a review about Crap? :D

Mrs. G: Thanks. Looks like James Bond is winning so far.

Brentd: I thought it was really funny when that name came up, and it would be the most appropriate for this blog, I guess.

Madmad: Nope, it's never boring around here, but that's mostly due to my three kids.

Johnada: I especially like the album title for Own Goal, since that's what I feel like doing sometimes, but James Bond is always a hit.

Jocelyn: Yeah, I guess the outcome is inevitable, isn't it?

fortiorcantor555: Oooh, good luck. Getting residency papers in order is a major hassle, so arm yourself with patience.

Joann: It's amazing how a blog can change in one year. Mine went from no comments, boring posts and a blah Blogger template to well...this. :)

Gillian: Thanks. Looks like almost everyone else did too. Now I'll have to come up with a good review.

Minka: That was the last one I did and it looks like the winner so far. It's funny to see what combinations come up, and even more fun to put them together. I can't wait to see yours. :)

  20. Happy Blogaversary! I love this and am only slightly jealous that it seems your pile of laundry is at least clean.

I voted for Own Goal for some reason - mainly the album title, but I did like the James Bond Dossier which I see is a huge hit!

Maybe I could feature your band in a Saturday Spin :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. g: I liked Own Goal best myself, but it looks like James Bond always wins. A Saturday Spin without actual music might be disappointing, but then again it is James Bond. ;)
